Dr Rajat Gupta, MS (Ortho), DNB (Ortho), MCh (Ortho) is an Orthopaedic Oncologist in India. He is the only surgeon in the region who deals exclusively in bone and soft tissue tumours including metastatic bone disease. After completing MBBS and MS (Orthopaedics) from the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, he worked as Senior Resident at Maulana Azad Medical College & associated Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi.for 2 years and then moved to P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai for further training in Orthopaedic Oncology for 2.5 years. His area of expertise includes performing limb salvage surgeries for various bone and soft tissue tumours including pelvic and scapular resection and reconstruction surgeries and rotationplasties. He believes that limb saving surgeries can be done in majority of bone and soft tissue sarcomas. He has presented various papers and posters on bone and soft tissue tumours at various national and international conferences. He had visited Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada, one of the very high volume centres dealing in bone and soft tissue tumoursworldover, as an observer in Orthopaedic Oncology in 2015. He’s practising exclusively Orthopaedic Oncology at Bone Cancer Clinic, Sector 19, Chandigarh and Sector 14, Panchkula and is attached to various Hospitals of Chandigarh Tricity.

Dr Rajat is the first surgeon in the region to successfully do an “Extensor apparatus preserving Extra- articular resection of distal femur with megaprosthesis reconstruction” in a private sector.

Dr Rajat is also the first surgeon in the region to start limb salvage surgeries using “Extra-Corporeal Radiation Therapy” technique in private sector in which the bone affected with cancer is removed enbloc (in one piece) and sent for high dose radiation therapy. The irradiated bone is then fixed back to the parent bone with plate and screws. This technique not only helps in saving the limb but also helps in preserving the natural joint.

He’s started limb salvage surgeries with pedicled cryotherapy technique for Malignant bone tumours in the region in the private sector.
